What is Osteoporosis?

The word osteoporosis means “porous bones “. As the name implies it’s a disease where the bones become weak and brittle. The bones become so weak that even a mild stress on them like picking up something from the ground can cause a fracture. Normally a person suffering from osteoporosis has very low levels of calcium. Phosphorous and other minerals. Endocrine disorders might also be reasons for osteoporosis.

One of the common features of a person suffering from osteoporosis is frequent fractures especially at spine, hip or waste. Although this disease is more frequent among women but men are also not immune to this disease. Some times cases of osteoporosis are also found among children’s.

Symptoms: in the preliminary stages of osteoporosis you will not find any symptoms of pain .but once bones have really weekend the following symptoms are normally exhibited.
1. Severe back pain
2. Loss of height over time, with an accompanying stooped posture
3. Fracture of the vertebrae, wrists, hips or other bones

Treatment: although osteoporosis is a serious anomalie and causes severe pain it can still be taken care off by proper medication. But nowadays alternate methods of treatment have been looked at as the safety of hormone therapy has been debated especially oral types of hormone therapy.
